Sometimes, non-tech companies find themselves the source of geek obsession. In San Francisco, one of these companies is Samovar Tea Lounge.
The question is: how to embrace it?
In the case of Samovar, they put a personal appeal to the tech community in their actual menu, called “Tea and Technology.” It’s a simple gesture but one that communicates Samovar’s technology philosophy and also how fans can extend their Samovar experience outside of the cafe through digital mediums, such as their e-newsletter, Twitter and videos on their site.
It’s amazingly smart and a good example of a company that is really tuning into who its customers are beside the obvious (in this case, tea enthusiasts).
Check out the video, which also includes an ode to summer at the end that I made for all of my wonderful viewers.

Know any other non-tech companies that are using some innovative methods to connect with their tech-y customer base? Please share!

Sweet video Aziari! Thanks for the awsome comments, feedback, and kind words. Please email me at jesse@samovarlife anytime you want to talk tea, tech, san francisco, or how we can do what we do…better.
Thanks Jesse! I live across the street from the Zen Valley location, too, so perhaps I will see you around. Glad you liked the vid.
very sassy video, although i don’t know about the name yoshi…my former roommate’s naughty bit was named yoshi. think about the nintendo egg dropping game and it will prob make sense.
you’re probably too young for that. nm.
Very great video and nice to see what Samovar is doing. It’s definitely true – go where your customers are. So many companies think they have to get a twitter account, but if their customers aren’t there, there’s close to no point!
If you see @cheeseboard on twitter, you’ll notice a PR fail. My friend wrote some code that scrapes Cheeseboard’s website everyday to update the twitter feed. The account has over a thousand followers, and has been up for years, but still no one from there has contacted my friend to find out what more they can do with it.
Lindsay – I hear you. I think a lot of companies feel as if they “have” to be on Twitter, which is absolute BS.
A Cheeseboard scraper – now that’s clever.
You’ve got some talent! Well done.
BTW, love samovar & blue bottle
I hear you. I’m lucky enough to live within a block of both of them.
Thanks for stopping by, Chris!
